    Emmerdale star Louisa Clein has joined forces with her sister to retrace her family’s footsteps for a harrowing documentary on the Holocaust. 

    Louisa – best known as Maya Stepney on the ITV soap – and Natalie, head to the Netherlands to find out more about their ancestors’ history through the harrowing World War II period, and their incredible escape from the Nazis. 

    This includes visiting the house where her grandmother became a member of the Resistance, and the locations where their mother would hide to escape the Nazis in Amsterdam. 

    The pair also visit Westerbork, former transit camp during the atrocities of the Holocaust. 

    Speaking about their experience, Louisa said: ‘We went at one point into a tiny little room at the top of a house where my grandfather was hidden for a while, and I looked out of the window and I thought, “This is the view that he saw.” 

    ‘I found it extremely moving to look out of a window and know it was the same view. The trees might be a little bit taller now but it’s the same view that my grandparents will have seen.’
