20years ago, my life changed forever.
I was 17yrs old.
The year was the year of our Lord, 2002.
I had just won the South African Championship in Public Speaking held by the South African Guild of Speech. I was selected to compete at the ESU World Championship in Public Speaking on England.
First time on a flight.
First time overseas.
First time having to convert currencies every time I was buying something.
Since then I have traveled to & addressed audiences in 6 of the 7 continents. Few cultures I have not experienced, fee languages I have not heard spoken firsthand. This gift of being a global citizen is simply borne of natural gift and thousands of hours of grit & hard work.
My competition was some of the best young public speakers from across the globe. We had a tough week of intense competitions, ferocious debates and argumentation.
By the end of the week we were friends weaved together into a family. Our experience was life-changing for all of us.
